Best Brushes For Shedding and Non-Shedding Dogs
For dogs that shed and just general grooming purposes, these are the best brushes you can own.
When I first started grooming my dog on a regular basis, our groomer said this was the best brush for our dog. Maybe it was the best in the hands of a professional groomer but it was all wrong for us. Everytime I used it Lexie would cry out in discomfort.
That’s when I discovered the ultimate brush for any dog regardless of how much or how little the shed. It works great with curly coats and even straight coats. Hands down this is my favorite brush for daily grooming!
Now let’s get into specifics. I will give you a few options to try depending on whether you have a dog with a double coat that sheds often or a dog like a poodle or a bichon that almost never sheds but requires frequent brushing and grooming.
Best Brushes For Dogs With A Double Coat That Shed
Each of these three brushes serves a purpose. If you own a Golden Retriever, Husky, German Shepherd or any other dog with a thick double coat you will most likely want all three of these in your collection of dog grooming tools.
The first dog brush – With our Golden Retriever, I used the Kong brush most often. It was a great way to give Buddy a good rub down outside. It felt great to him and really helped remove the dead undercoat fur. Just be sure to do it outside because fur goes everywhere… but I probably didn’t need to tell you that did I? lol
The second dog brush is an Amazon Best Seller. This brush by far, has the best marketing. The videos on Amazon are probably the reason it sells so well. This or really any slicker brush, will do great.
I suggest going with the least expensive. While the brush I have listed below is great and has all the bells and whistles, you are more than capable of pulling the dog fur out of a slicker brush to save $10.
With this said, not all dogs enjoy the slicker brush. While my Golden Retriever enjoyed the slicker brush, my Doodle Lexie only tolerates it for a few minutes before trying to run away.
The third dog brush is marketed for matted fur, but I don’t like this at all for getting out matted fur. Lexie being a Doodle, she gets matted fur all the time and she will not let me get near her with one of these.
This brush is the one to use on a Husky, German Shepherd or Retriever. This brush is excellent at pulling out the undercoat that is stuck in their fur. You could get out enough fur to cover a second dog with one of these.
If you use it in the warm summer months your dog will love you for helping to thin out their coat!
Dog Brushes For Dogs That Get Matted Fur
I’m letting you in on my best secret. I don’t care what your groomer says, these brushes work great for those of us at home that just want to keep our dogs from the pain of matted fur.
Dog Brush #1 – This is the brush I use almost daily. Just trust me and buy a set. You will probably want one for yourself. I learned about these brushes because my daughters were using them!
Dog Brush #2 – Use this brush/rake to remove mats. Here’s a quick video of the brush in use! Look how she just lays there and lets the brush go through her fur.
Best Wire Crate
This is the crate we have and use on a daily basis. With two latches on each door it is secure, simple to use and it works well for our needs.
I am a big fan of the double door wire crates. It provides maximum flexibility for moving the crate around your house or taking it with you when you travel.
For example, we normally have our dog crate in the corner of our family room, but when Christmas comes around, we want to put our Christmas tree in that location. Because our metal dog crate has a door on two sides, we have the flexibility to move it around and still have access in and out of the crate.
If your dog requires an XXL Dog Crate, check out this double door crate with three locks on each door. While I have not used this one, it gets very good reviews and should work well for those needing a giant crate.

General Thoughts On Pet Supplies & Accessories
Did you know, the most expensive pet supplies are not always the best?
I once spent $45 on a professional groomer level brush for Lexie, my dog, and it was horrible! She cried every time I tried to use it. The best solution turned out to be an inexpensive hairbrush I took out of my 12-year-old daughter’s bathroom drawer!
This is not a joke! By far, this brush is my most recommended item for dogs and cats that require frequent grooming!
While this brush is inexpensive, sometimes it is worth spending the extra money on a more expensive but high-quality item.
Don’t worry, we will help you figure out when to spend more for an item, or if it is okay to go with a lower-priced item to save a few dollars.
We all want the highest quality pet supplies for the least amount of money, so that’s what we are here to do. We will help you navigate the pet supply industry to figure out what really works and what doesn’t.
